How To Have A Happy Halloween
Halloween fun comes in many forms and there are countless things you can do to ensure you have a happy Halloween this year, whether you're a curl-up-with-a-book type of person or a haunted house type of person. You can travel to Universal Studios Florida or Greenwich Village (NYC) for Halloween festivities or you can stay right at home, handing out Halloween candy to costumed ghouls and goblins. Here are some other ideas to help you enjoy this holiday. Who knows, you might have so much Halloween fun it will scare you!
It's a lot of work, but if you want to have a really great Halloween costume party, then plan months in advance! Perhaps you'll choose a theme to get started, such as a masquerade, Renaissance vampires, pirates, monsters, 1920s gangsters or any other decorating and costume theme. If it's your first time, then you might want to host a simple dinner of ghoulish delights, followed by a movie.
If you're looking for something outrageous, then just throw some Halloween drinking games or board games into the mix and watch the party explode with laughter. Murder mystery parties come in a box that provide suggestions for food, decorations and costume accessories, as well as providing invitations, character booklets, scripts and a CD/DVD with the compelling conclusion for your "whodunnit" mystery. Check out the Bepuzzled brand for the best selection of murder mystery kits.
What better way to get into the Halloween spirit than to read a ghost story or watch a scary movie? You'll have a happy Halloween if you check out Stephen King's "The Shining," which is terrifying, whether you're reading or watching it. Another more contemporary book of Halloween horror is the "Books of Blood" by Clive Barker or "Night Gallery" by Rod Serling, which is also a great movie. For more classic stories of suspense, try anything by Edgar Allan Poe, Edith Wharton, Peter Strab or HP Lovecraft. They just don't make ghost story movies like they used to, do they? "Poltergeist," "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "The Exorcist" are some of the creepiest movies ever made. "Yeah, yeah, yeah -- been there, done that," you may be saying. If you want some Halloween films that are off the beaten path, then try "Eraserhead," "Carnival of Souls," "Suspiria," "Don't Look Now" and "Repulsion."
Food is such a part of every holiday, so why not cook something up to make a happy Halloween too? Perhaps it's your holiday tradition to make goulash, pulled pork sandwiches or meatloaf each year as a quick, easy meal before the kids run off to trick or treat. You may look forward to appetizers like bacon water chestnut rolls, hummus platters, olive puffs, spiced pumpkin seeds, black bean chili, deviled eggs or cornbread muffins. The website www.epicurious.com recommends serving deviled ham, roasted deviled potatoes, deviled fried chicken, black linguine with orange and red peppers, braised short ribs or roasted golden nugget squash for the main entree at a Halloween party. You'll find the kids really look forward to pumpkin pie, devil's food cake, creepy Halloween decorations Jell-O molds and tarantula cookies every year as well. You don't have to go all-out as you would on Thanksgiving, but adding some sustenance along with all that Halloween candy is a great idea.

Today's Tip On Halloween
Or perhaps you're looking for fun Halloween party games for teens. Don't feel daunted in your quest for "the cool factor" with this age group, as they're a lot easier to impress than you may think! One mother said she sent out a story starter with the party invitations and asked the kids to write a creepy ending to be judged at the event. She said the stories were so funny, gross and fascinating that they reread them each year! Given the popularity of YouTube and viral videos, and how tech savvy kids are these days, you may also want to have a "Blair Witch Project Style Film Festival," asking each kid to write and film a five-minute horror movie to be screened at the party. Or if you'd like, you can make this a party activity by assembling old costume accessories and writing down movie ideas, letting kids pick out of a hat. Give each team 20 minutes to film their own movie as the other kids do another activity, waiting for their turn. Halloween hide-h-go-seek can be terrifying when the seeker is dressed up like a horrifying monster, creepy music is playing in the background and those caught have to lay on the floor like vampires in their coffins. Board games are always a howling good time for teenagers as well.
